Praise
the Lord!!
“Therefore
keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)
The
second coming of our Lord Jesus is an important event that is certainly going
to happen without any doubt. All signs regarding His coming are getting
fulfilled. The time is drawing very near. So we need to prepare ourselves to
meet the Lord when He comes. We should always be watchful and ready. In Matthew
24:44, the Lord said, "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man
will come at an hour when you do not expect Him". In 25:13, Jesus said,
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour".
Jesus Himself has said, "No one knows about the day or hour of the Lord's
return, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
(Matthew 24:36). The Lord's coming will be a sudden and a surprising event and
that's why the Bible exhorts us to be always ready. We should not live in a
careless manner convincing ourselves with the false notion that there is still
more time for Jesus to return. In Matthew 25:1-13, we read of the parable of
ten virgins. Five of them were wise and five were foolish. On what basis were
they divided thus? All ten of them were having lamps in their hands. All their
lamps were burning. All of them were waiting expectantly for the bridegroom.
But there was a very important difference between them. The wise virgins had
oil in their jars along with their lamps whereas the foolish ones did not. They
thought that the oil in the lamps would be enough and would keep their lamps
burning till the bridegroom came. But they were terribly mistaken. The
bridegroom's arrival was delayed. He came only at midnight. Those virgins who
had oil ready had their lamps burning bright, and they went in with the
bridegroom to the wedding banquet. But the foolish virgins, the ones who did
not have oil could not go because their lamps went out and they were left
behind. They pleaded with the bridegroom to open the door for them, but he
denied saying, "I don't know you".
Dear
friends, let our lamps be filled with oil always. Let us be alert and ready to
meet Jesus, our Bridegroom when He comes.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Your coming
may be at any time - morning, noon or night. So let me be always ready to meet
you when you come. Let it not take me by surprise and let me not lose the
privilege of going with you to the wedding banquet. Amen.
