Today's Message: THE UNSHAKEABLE FAITH OF NOAH

Praise the Lord!!

"Noah did everything just as God commanded him". (Genesis 6:22)

Noah was a great man of faith. His father Lamech named him Noah saying, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed" (Genesis 5:29). Noah lived in an extremely corrupt age when men had become so universally depraved that the Lord had determined to destroy the race. In the midst of this moral darkness Noah's life was radiant with righteousness. He walked with God and he was blameless among the people of his time (Genesis 6:9). One day the Lord revealed to Noah that He was going to send a great flood on the earth that would destroy all mankind. Then God gave Noah a strange and an apparently impossible task from human stand point - to build an immense boat to preserve the lives of his own family as well as certain species of the animal kingdom. Just imagine how difficult it would have been to Noah to do what God has commanded him! He was surrounded by a mass of godless unbelievers who, attracted by curiosity would come to see his work and every now and then would mock him for doing such a "foolish act". No doubt Noah became a laughing-stock. Yet, year after year, unmindful of people's criticisms and ridicules Noah maintained his faith and continued his task of building the ark. He did everything just as God commanded him (Genesis 6:22, 7:5). Thompson writes, "Considering his surroundings, the magnitude of the work he was called on to perform and the many years spent in hard labor, Noah stands among all the workers of the Bible unsurpassed, if not equaled in persistent faith".

Dear friends, God has called us to live a blameless life among this crooked and depraved generation. He has commissioned us to do His work and He wants us to obey him in every aspect. We may be ridiculed, humiliated or criticized; but let none of them shake our faith. Let us be steadfast and go ahead to fulfil His purpose in our lives.

PRAYER: Father, Noah stood alone for you among the evil people of his time. He was strong in his faith that you will do what you promised - that you will bring down the rain and destroy the mankind. Let me also have such unshakeable faith in you till the end. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Today's Message: FERVENT, PERSISTENT PRAYER

Praise the Lord!!

"... I will not let you go unless you bless me". (Genesis 32:26)

The Old Testament speaks much about outward, physical blessings from God, and the New Testament tells us of the more important, invisible spiritual blessings that we have in Jesus Christ. Both kinds of blessings are far more important than most of us can imagine. What can we do to receive these blessings from the Lord? "The most obvious instruction from the Lord is that we are to ask in prayer for an outpouring of God's favor", writes Jim Cymbala. In I Chronicles we read of Jabez. What made him stand out in his generation? It was his prayer! Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!” Please notice the emphatic words, "Jabez cried out". It was not just a prayer coming from his lips but from the depth of his heart. What was the outcome? God granted his request! Halleluiah! Jabez's prayer reminds us of another person in the Bible - Jacob who had a personal encounter with the Lord one night! In that moment of solitude, Jacob wrestled with God crying, "I will not let you go unless you bless me" (Genesis 32:26), and The Bible tells, "Then He (The Lord) blessed him”. (vs:29) It is very rare to see these kind of passionate desperate prayers these days. People all over the world feel that fervent, heartfelt prayer is not necessary today. They say that, since God is love, we just have to ask Him once politely, what we need and everything will turn out fine. How easily people are misguided! Let us take the example of our Lord Jesus. "During the days of Jesus' life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death". (Hebrews 5:7) If Jesus Himself prayed so, then why should we restrict ourselves from pouring out our hearts to the Lord in prayer?

Dear friends, surely seeking God with our whole heart is the right kind of prayer that secures not just answers, but the blessings of the Lord that we all need.

PRAYER: Almighty God, let me not deceive myself that praying prolonged prayers, agonizing in prayer and waiting upon the Lord in prayer are all old fashioned terms. Let me passionately and desperately long for your blessings while I pray. In Jesus  name I pray. Amen.

Today's Message: CLEAN HANDS AND PURE HEARTS

Praise the Lord!!

“... Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the vessels of the Lord. ” (Isaiah 52:11)

When King Hezekiah took the throne of Judah, the nation was a moral and spiritual garbage, with idolatrous altars literally on every street corner. But King Hezekiah turned the entire scenario and led his people into a powerful national revival. After cleaning out the neglected and defiled temple of God, Hezekiah called the people for a national Passover celebration. It has been long since the people of God had observed this holy remembrance of God's deliverance. And so a very large crowd of people assembled in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. In the midst of celebration, the priests and Levites stopped what they were doing. II Chronicles 30:15-16 says, "They (the people) slaughtered the Passover lamb on the fourteenth day of the second month. The priests and the Levites were ashamed and consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings to the temple of the Lord. Then they took up their regular positions ..” Why did they do so? Because they were deeply aware of their own sin, their own compromise and their own failures and so they consecrated themselves to the Lord to get rid of their garbage. They realized they were not holy enough to handle the holy things of the Lord.

Dear friends, like these priests and Levites, we may have been entrusted with some spiritual responsibility - teaching, leading, preaching, counseling, organizing or administering God's work. We need to always remember that we are handling the very things of God - the holy God. We should never ever let our work for Him become careless or mechanical or self-serving. It is a solemn, even a dangerous mistake to handle the holy without clean hands. "Serving Christ is not fun and games, or just a little spiritual exercise. It requires a holy life", writes Ron Hutchcraft. So let us first purify ourselves from all uncleanness before we come to God’s presence.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, you have given me a great spiritual responsibility of serving you. But I realize that I am not holy enough to minister to you. I see the dirt in my heart and I want to deal with it before I handle the holy. Cleanse me, I pray, with the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Today's Message: WITH GOD I AM A HERO

Praise the Lord!!

“ He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. ” (Psalm 18:34)

Ten year old Bob lost the soccer game in the school team. “I can’t play again”, he cried to his mother. “I just can’t”. Susan tried to encourage her son, but she only made it worse by her counsel. That night during the story time, Susan came up with the story of David and Goliath - how the little lad David defeated the huge Philistine giant Goliath just with a small pebble. She wondered if through this story she would be able to give Bob the confidence to play the soccer game of which he was so afraid. “O Lord, I don’t know how to help him. Let him find the courage he needs to face this giant”, she prayed desperately. The next week, Susan and her husband left for the Holy Land, a trip that was planned long before. As they reached the rocky hills of Judea, the tour guide said, “You are now in the valley where David slew Goliath”. Susan’s heart was pounding. “David and Goliath?” “The Philistines camped over on that hill and the Israelites over here” pointed out the guide. “And you’ll find a brook still running between the two hills. Many speculate that it is the very brook where David took the stone that killed the giant.” Susan felt that God had planted an idea in her mind. She made her way to the brook, collected a few pebbles and put them in her handbag. A week later when they reached home, Susan took out the handful of stones and gave them to Bob. “What’s that for?” Bob asked. “I picked these from the brook where David might have picked these. I brought them all the way back just to remind you of a promise.” Bob, you are a lot like David. You have got a giant too - the giant of fear. You can face it like David did.” “What’s the promise?” Bob asked. “It is the same as David’s,” Susan explained. “God is with me and I can do it”. Bob’s eyes sparkled. He picked up his soccer ball, which was lying in a corner and off he went to the field. Indeed he did win the game!

Dear friends, are you facing the great giant of fear? When a defeated little boy, whom nobody wanted on the school team slew his fear with a promise “God is with me and I can do it”, why can’t we do it? Sure. No power on earth can destroy God’s promises.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, at times I have an irrational fear and feel helpless. I feel as if the giant of fear grows taller and my self-esteem shrinks. I tend to give way to a kind of despair. Like David I confess, since you are with me I will not be defeated. I am always a conqueror. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Today's Message: GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS O LORD

Praise the Lord!!

“... Therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, ...”. (Lamentations 3:21-22)

Many of us are familiar with the song "Great is Thy Faithfulness" that goes like this - "Great is thy faithfulness, O Lord my Father. There is no shadow of turning with thee. All I have needed thy hands have provided, Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.” It would be encouraging if we know that great promises of the Lord are embedded in the context of difficulties, tears, wars and sorrows. Jeremiah, the prophet who wrote the book of Lamentations, was deeply hurt by the fact that God had to discipline the people of Israel by sending them off to captivity in Babylon and that the captivity would last for seventy years. He cried to God in despair, "See, O Lord, how distressed I am! I am in torment within.” (Lamentations 1:20) He wondered whether there was any hope for his people. And indeed there was! Jeremiah proclaimed with confidence, "It is only because of the Lord's great love that we are not consumed. For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” Then he worshipped the Lord saying, "Great is your faithfulness".

Dear friends, there are many parents who weep over their sons and daughters who have become rebellious and walked away from God and His people. Many children weep over their unbelieving parents and grandparents. Many of us weep over our neighbors and colleagues who have no relationship with Jesus. That hurts us deeply. "Is there any hope?” We cry in despair like Jeremiah. And indeed we do have hope because the Lord's love is so great that it does not allow the unsaved to perish. It changes the hearts and lives of our loved ones. Great is His faithfulness! So, let us live our life with courage and confidence. God's great faithfulness to us means that we are not consumed in our sin. It does not allow us to be destroyed. And so let us joyfully offer our life to be used by God to spread His love and truth to the perishing people.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, it is only because of your great love that I am not consumed by sin's power. I pray for all my loved ones who are not saved. Let your love change their hearts and lives. Use me Lord, to spread your love to these perishing souls. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Today's Message: BE WATCHFUL

Praise the Lord!!

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)

The second coming of our Lord Jesus is an important event that is certainly going to happen without any doubt. All signs regarding His coming are getting fulfilled. The time is drawing very near. So we need to prepare ourselves to meet the Lord when He comes. We should always be watchful and ready. In Matthew 24:44, the Lord said, "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him". In 25:13, Jesus said, "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour". Jesus Himself has said, "No one knows about the day or hour of the Lord's return, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36). The Lord's coming will be a sudden and a surprising event and that's why the Bible exhorts us to be always ready. We should not live in a careless manner convincing ourselves with the false notion that there is still more time for Jesus to return. In Matthew 25:1-13, we read of the parable of ten virgins. Five of them were wise and five were foolish. On what basis were they divided thus? All ten of them were having lamps in their hands. All their lamps were burning. All of them were waiting expectantly for the bridegroom. But there was a very important difference between them. The wise virgins had oil in their jars along with their lamps whereas the foolish ones did not. They thought that the oil in the lamps would be enough and would keep their lamps burning till the bridegroom came. But they were terribly mistaken. The bridegroom's arrival was delayed. He came only at midnight. Those virgins who had oil ready had their lamps burning bright, and they went in with the bridegroom to the wedding banquet. But the foolish virgins, the ones who did not have oil could not go because their lamps went out and they were left behind. They pleaded with the bridegroom to open the door for them, but he denied saying, "I don't know you".

Dear friends, let our lamps be filled with oil always. Let us be alert and ready to meet Jesus, our Bridegroom when He comes.

PRAYER:  Lord Jesus, Your coming may be at any time - morning, noon or night. So let me be always ready to meet you when you come. Let it not take me by surprise and let me not lose the privilege of going with you to the wedding banquet. Amen.

Today's Message: GIVE THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART

Praise the Lord!!

“Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." (Psalm 103:2)

We, as children of the Living God have a reason to thank Him - He has demonstrated salvation in the cross of Christ and He has given us His Holy Spirit. The Bible points out that we should always abound with thanks to God for who He is and for all He has done. It is God who has allowed us to live in the goodness of the land. Deuteronomy 8:10 says,"When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you". We must remember to give thanks for our dwelling place, occupation, the church family and physical family that we have been blessed with, including the status and gifts in our life. Here, Moses says that, all the goodness and blessings of life have come from God, whether we worked for them or not. And we are to acknowledge that God is our supply and so we should honor Him in all these blessings. But sometimes after we have received all of God's blessings we get puffed up with pride. We get so used to the blessed life that we assume this as our right. We entertain the thought that we will obtain this somehow, in some way. Deuteronomy 8:11 says, "Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God ...". This may occur as we go in our daily life without making any time for God. This is called drift - where people just let their relationship with God dissipate.

Dear friends, let us be careful. Let us take time to remember how God spared us from sin's penalty and power, and how He has brought us out from darkness to His marvelous light so that we would receive eternal life. He has lavished upon us His love so that we might be witnesses to those who are yet to receive His salvation. Let our hearts be filled with gratitude for all the unmerited favor God has bestowed upon us. Let us never hesitate to pour out our thanks to God for everything He has done, both big and small. Let us make it our aim to give thanks constantly and to honor God in our lifestyle. Then He will be pleased to bless us still more.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the greatest gift you have given me which is salvation. Thank you for all the spiritual and material blessing. Let me not take all these for granted and assume them as my right. Let me not become proud but acknowledge you humbly. Amen.

Today's Message: BARUCH - A MODEL TO FOLLOW

Praise the Lord!!

I Have received this message from some forward mailers, which impressed me.. Hence sharing this to touch your hearts..

“But whatever was to my profit, I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.” (Philippians 3:7)

Baruch was the son of Neriah. He was a devoted friend of Jeremiah, the prophet. He seems to have been of noble family according to Josephus. He was also a man of unusual acquirements. He might have risen to a high position and seemed conscious of this, but when Jeremiah influenced him saying, "Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life". Baruch repressed his ambition, being content to be with the great prophet whose secretary and companion he became. Jeremiah dictated his prophesies to Baruch, who in turn wrote them and read them to people. (Jeremiah 36) King Jehoiakim was greatly angered at these prophesies and had Baruch arrested. He even burnt the scrolls written by Baruch. However, Baruch rewrote Jeremiah's prophecies. When Jerusalem was under siege, Baruch stood by his master. Jeremiah had such confidence on Baruch that when he purchased his ancestral property at Anathoth, he gave the deed of purchase to Baruch. According to Josephus, Baruch continued to stay with Jeremiah at Mizpah even after the fall of Jerusalem. Later, Baruch was accused of having unduly influenced Jeremiah when Jeremiah actually prophesied the Word of God to the people to remain in Judah. Chapter 43:2 says, "All the arrogant men said to Jeremiah, ‘You are lying! The Lord our God has not sent you to say, “You must not go to Egypt to settle there". But Baruch, son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians". When Jeremiah was taken to Egypt, Baruch also went with him and thereafter the Bible does not say what happened to him. History says that he died in Egypt.

Dear friends, let the noble character of Baruch and the important part he played in the life and work of Jeremiah influence us to take a bold stand for the Lord, even if it means losing everything.

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, though Baruch had all opportunities to rise up to a high position, he forsook all of them and dedicated his life to be a faithful attendant of Jeremiah. Lord, let me not resist your plan for me but let me be ready to obey your call, without counting the cost. Amen.

Today's Message: LET PAST FAILURES CORRECT US

Praise the Lord!!

“... A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)

Judas had been the treasurer of the Lord's disciples for over three years. Yet he "sold" his master for just thirty pieces of silver! It makes us think, "Did the constant handling of money cause it to become his master, instead of him becoming its master?” Whatever it is, Judas did succumb to the temptation of money and committed the shameful act of betraying his Lord. But when he realized the gravity of what he had done, he became remorse and hanged himself. How sad! David, on the other hand failed miserably but was still used by God. What David did was serious. It was not one sin but several. He committed adultery, he lied, and was instrumental in murdering Uriah. When he realized what he had done, he was truly repentant. He cried, "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin". (Psalm 51:1-2). Peter is another example. At the most crucial hour he denied the Lord. But when he realized his act of cowardice, he cried bitterly and repented. So he was forgiven by the Lord and was greatly used by Him.

Dear friends, there is a way back to God from the dark paths of sin. There is a door that is open and all may go in. "It is the door of true repentance and forgiveness" writes an author. All of us have past failures which we regret. There is no one who has led a blameless life. The important thing is to determine not to repeat those sins and misdeeds but to seek the Lord's help to make amends and atone for them. In Psalm 51:12, David pleads with God to forgive him, and restore to him the joy of salvation. And the Lord graciously forgave all his sins. The world sees a murderer, or an adulterer always as the same, even after he repents. But the Lord sees him as a new creature. So let us not give room to self condemnation but let us seek God's mercy to receive His pardon.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I have sinned against you in the past. I have deceived you, hurt you and grieved you very much. Let not my sin destroy me. I plead with you Lord to have mercy on me. Forgive me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

OBSTACLES THAT TEST OUR FAITH

Praise the Lord!!

“We live by faith, not by sight. ” (II Corinthians 5:7)

A believer would face many obstacles that test his faith. Firstly, lack of sympathy from our fellow believers. Jesus's disciples were unsympathetic in some situations. For example, when the Canaanite woman brought her demon possessed daughter to Jesus for healing, the disciples urged Him to send her away. (Matt 15:23) And in another incident when people were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him touch them, the disciples acted without mercy and rebuked them. Similarly, even our fellow believers may talk negative words and dampen our faith. Secondly, discouraging circumstances may test our faith. In Luke 5:17-26 we read how the friends of a paralytic man carried him to Jesus for healing. They could not gain an easy entry into the house where Jesus was present. A large number of people had gathered inside and outside making it difficult for them to get in. The situation was extremely discouraging. But praise God, they were steadfast in their effort, overcame the situation and gained victory. Thirdly, unbelieving friends may be obstacles. In Mark 5:22 we read of Jairus, a synagogue leader whose daughter was very sick. He approached Jesus and pleaded Him to go with him to his house and heal her. But the going of Jesus was delayed because of His encounter with a woman who had been subjected to bleeding for twelve years. At that time Jairus received the news that his daughter was dead. His faith must surely have hit the rock bottom, but he still believed and received the blessing. His daughter was raised to life by Jesus.

Dear friends, let us not lose heart, when we face obstacles that test our faith. Jesus said that if we say with faith to a mountain, "Go throw yourself into the sea", it will be done. People may be unsympathetic, they may talk words of doubt and fear, the situations may be discouraging, which would melt our hearts like water. All these stand before us as great mountains. But if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we will surely see great miracles happening in our lives. Halleluiah!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, let me not be moved by the obstacles that test my faith. Let me not give room to anxiety, doubt and fear. Even though these stand before me like huge mountains I command them in the name of Jesus to be removed from my life and I gain victory. Amen.
